2023 Year in Review
December 2nd, 2023

Nitro UI
This year marked the beginning of Nitro UI, an open-source UI kit tailored for Life Science research. It includes a unique Plasmid/Linear viewer, components for visualizing BLAST results, and essential elements like Dropdowns, Tables, and Comboboxes. The embedded components on the project page offer an interactive experience. Our goal for next year is to reach version 1.0.0, focusing on an ergonomic API, robust documentation, and an enhanced developer experience.
State of TechBio
Collaborating with Bits in Bio and Cradle Bio, Nitro developed a website for the 2022 State of TechBio. The site beautifully showcases important data, and I'm thrilled to present the 2023 results early next year.
Github Accelerator
Joining the inaugural Github Accelerator was a career highlight. Working alongside Timothy Stiles and other incredible developers was an enriching experience. I highly recommend it to fellow developers!
Cas-Mini Site
Partnering with Epic Biotechnologies, Nitro built the Cas Mini Explorer. This project involved designing a website to help researchers with dCasMINI-based experiments. The collaboration and quick iteration led to a successful launch and an accompanying preprint.
Seqweaver
In collaboration with Plasmidsaurus, Nitro produced Seqweaver, a tool for visualizing and annotating DNA sequences. This year, I launched an open alpha version and integrated it into Plasmidsaurus's internal toolchain. With insights from UX researcher Marian Corpus, Nitro is planning a closed beta launch in 2024.
Phylogeny.Bio
Building on Deep Origin's Life Science Software Landscape, Nitro developed a searchable web app, Phylogeny.Bio. This tool allows users to explore extensive biotech data, and we are working with the Bits in Bio community to keep it open and useful.
